Migraine: Symptoms, Causes, Diagnosis, Treatment

Migraine is a headache and defined as pulsating, throbbing, perforating, pounding and debilitating. It feels like severe, dull or steady ache. Can be started as mild but become moderate to severe. It mainly affects the forehead area on both sides or the both sides of the forehead or can be shifted.

Most migraine attacks last for 4 hours but if they are not treated or don’t respond to a treatment then they can last for 72 hours or a week.

Migraine Symptoms: Migraine starts 1 or 2 days before a headache and is known as the prodrome stage. And symptoms during this stage are:

  1. Food cravings
  2. Depression
  3. Fatigue or low energy
  4. Frequent yawning
  5. Hyperactivity
  6. Irritability
  7. Neck Stiffness

After prodrome stage aura occurs where one can have problems with your vision, sensation, movements and speech. Some of the examples are:

  1. Difficulty in speaking clearly
  2. Feeling tingling or prickling sensation in your face, arms or leg
  3. Light flashes or bright spot
  4. Slowly losing vision

After the aura stage there is an attack phase where acute or severe of these phases occur when actual migraine occurs. Attack phase can last for hours today. Symptoms can vary from one person to another.

Symptoms include:

  1. increased sensitivity to light and sound
  2. nausea
  3. dizziness or feeling faint
  4. pain on one both side of your head , front, or back
  5. pulsing and throbbing head pain
  6. Vomiting

After the attack phase one may experience a postdrome phase. During this stage one may experience mood swings and feelings which can range from feeling euphoric and extremely happy to feeling very fatigued and apathetic. A mild, dull headache may persist. The intensity and length of this phase are different in different people.

What cause Migraine Attack?

There are many migraine triggers which have been reported continuously which includes:

  1. Bright lights
  2. Dehydration
  3. Severe heat or extreme in weather
  4. Excessive stress
  5. Loud sounds
  6. Hormonal Changes
  7. Skipping of meals
  8. Intense physical activity
  9. Pattern of sleeping changes and many more

Treatment

Migraine can’t be cured but your doctor can give some tools to treat that migraine attack and it can lead to fewer attacks. There are multiple symptoms which may include:

  1. nausea
  2. vomiting
  3. difficulty speaking
  4. numbness or tingling

This condition runs in the family and it affects in coming ages.
